Doctor shows on TV were just becoming popular when I was growing up. And every one of them was shown with a stethoscope around their neck. Nurses too had stethoscopes around their necks, always. And in real life, my own doctor would always take his stethoscope and listen. First to the heart and then take it to my back and listen while I breathed in and out slowly. A stethoscope… it was used to listen to my heart. To the beats. To the rhythm. To what was keeping me alive.
