NAAP Press Release
May 21, 2018
Driven by new regulatory requirements and the need to meet increasing demands in the long-term care sector, the National Association of Activity Professionals (NAAP) has made the decision to support the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals (NCCAP) as the certification body for the professioneffective January 1, 2019. Founded in 1982, the National Association of Activity Professionals is the formal voice of the thousands of professional care partners who provide person-centered care across the spectrum of long-term care.
The move to a single credentialing body is designed to ensure the quality of certification and enhance the value of the Activity Profession.
The NAAP Leadership Team has been in discussion about what the right decision is based on the trends and the needs of the industry. The unanimous decision was made that a single credential should be offered at this time. We believe that NCCAP, in good faith, has extended the olive branch and brought to the table the appropriate changes necessary to meet the needs of the healthcare profession. We believe that NCCAP offers the best path forward to ensure the highest quality certification for the Activity Professional. While NAAPCC has played a vital role in advancing the profession to our members at a time when NCCAP was unapproachable and non-responsive,the NAAP Board believes a single credential best serves the Activity Profession. Since NCCAP approached us in March of 2017, we feel confident that all our requests for information and concerns have been addressed for us to move ahead in a positive manner. In addition, NAAP is looking forward to working with NCCAP on future projects and international relationships.
We are open and available to receive any member writtencomments or concerns through Friday, June 15, 2018, by emailing office@naap.infoor by calling the NAAP office at 913-748-7288. In addition, we will be offering an open member meeting on Monday, June 18, 2018, at 7:00 PM EST to address emails, comments, concerns or questions through the Go-To Meeting portal. The NAAP Leadership Team
