Reading2Connect®
Can people living with dementia read? This question is at the core of Reading2Connect®.
We have discovered that the ability to read for most older adults remains functionally intact, even in the presence of cognitive changes. Reading2Connect’s specialized books and Montessori-based methodology, enable residents to independently read for pleasure, at their own pace, in their own way.
Leisurely reading reminds us of what we’ve done, what we know, and how we feel about things. These are invaluable gifts for the people we serve.
When a LTC or AL community acquires the Reading2Connect® Program, staff receive a large collection of age/dementia friendly books and online, module, training, with NCCAP-approved CEs. Activity staff also receive a hands-on, onsite training session, and a mobile app to reinforce Reading2Connect’s core components. The Reading2Connect® Program fosters resident independence, engagement, communication, and peer friendships. Enabling resident-directed activities, Reading2Connect® lessens staff burden and increases job satisfaction.
